Textiles

Gérardmer has a rich tradition in textiles, and many of the textile factories sell their products in factory stores and in the boutiques in the center of town. Modern linens of all kinds and styles can be found as well as traditional textiles with embroidered flowers and objects from the region.

Lumber

Surrounded by many forests, the lumber industry has always played an important role in Gérardmer. During the summer, demos take place to show how the lumber was transported from the forests on sleighs. At various locations in Gérardmer the typical regional wooden shoes are made and sold. They are mainly used for decoration today.

Foods 

Munster cheese is sold all over town and often produced on farms nearby. You can also find all kinds of sausages, honey, liquors and marmelades in the local stores. A typical wine from the Vosges, based on rhubarb is ‘Crillon des Vosges’: delicious!The Vosges is also known for the production of candies, and these factories offer tours as well.

Market

Every Thursday and Saturday mornings, overflowing from the large square in the center of town is the local market. Join the locals who do their shopping there. The Saturday morning version is a little smaller version and tends to have more local crafts and regional specialities.
